• FAIR exists for adoptive families. Through its all-volunteer organization FAIR offers information, education, support and fellowship to adoptive and preadoptive families. Our membership includes families who have adopted children through public and private agencies, from the US as well as from many other countries. FAIR focuses on the children who need a permanent, loving family and the parents who have opened their hearts and homes to those children, infants through teens.
• Recognizing that adoption brings all of the joys and challenges of ordinary parenting plus a number of differences and extras, FAIR provides the opportunity for connections between families. FAIR has experience with all kinds of special needs, transracial, and transcultural adoption and shares resources and encouragement with its extended family of members.

Local Resources for Families Who Have Adopted Internationally:

• Vanderbilt International Adoption Clinic: 615-936-6800. The clinic specializes in medical and developmental problems among children adopted internationally and offers counseling for adoptive parents, screening of preadoption records and comprehensive medical evaluations and intervention strategies for these children upon their arrival to the United States.
• Tennessee Adoption Support and Preservation: 615-352-3087. This is a comprehensive program that supports adoptive families and children across Tennessee as they create and maintain important connections with each other. ASAP teaches families how to ensure a successful adoption.
• Tennessee Early Intervention Services: 1-800-852-7157. The focus of this organization is to support families in promoting their child’s optimal development by imbedding strategies into family routines through a collaborative effort between family and providers of services. TEIS will do a baseline assessment of a child developmentally and will recommend and link to services as needed.
• Adoption Support Groups: Tennessee residents should pick up the free Parent magazine found at public areas such grocery stores, fast food restaurants, gas stations etc. In the back of each monthly magazine there is an updated listing of adoption resources, adoption support groups, adoption play groups, etc. that your family may be interested in attending.
• Catholic Charities of Tennessee, Inc. has a full service directory of community resources that focus on a variety of needs. If your family has a specific need please contact your social worker with Catholic Charities to discuss this specific need and allow our agency to direct you to the right community service.
