Caring Choices is a state-licensed adoption agency operated by Catholic Charities of TN, Inc.  We place Caucasian, minority race and special medical needs infants.  We also assist with many independent placements.  A sliding scale helps to make adoption affordable for virtually all qualified adoptive parents.  Our services are offered regardless of religious affiliation 

Adoption is a four step process.  First, we encourage you to attend one of our group information meeting which will provide a more detailed explanation of our services.  Please click on the EVENTS page for the next date and time.

Second, submit an application (contact Scott Gubala for application materials, 615-760-1025, sgubala@cctenn.org)  The third step is the home study, a state-mandated legal requirement in all adoption placements.  Home studies are an educational process for prospective adoptive parents as well as a way to ensure adequate emotional, financial and physical resources are in place.  And the fourth step is placement and support.  For Caucasian infants without special needs, the wait may be lengthy. 

Support groups are also offered for waiting families.  In addition, our agency participates in an annual educational conference through the Middle Tennessee Interagency Adoption Coalition.  

FAQ's

How long is the wait for a placement?

Since birthparents select a family, the wait varies. A couple may wait just a few months or possibly a few years.

What's required for a home study?

Medical and financial information. Criminal background checks. Questionnaires regarding infertility, marriage, parenting and adoption. Reference Letters.

How many placements do we make each year?

Between 6-10 placements a year.

How much does it cost?

We operate on a sliding fee scale.

What does openness mean?

Openness refers to any level of contact between adoptive parents and birthparents. It does not mean shared parenting. Openness allows you the opportunity to meet your birthparents and have access to your child’s medical and social history. 

Do we place older children?

No. Infants are placed through our pregnancy-counseling program and may be placed directly from the hospital or shortly after birth.

AFRICAN AMERICAN and BIRCIAL FAMILIES NEEDED

We are currently counseling a number of women who are expecting African-American or biracial children.  In order for the expectant mothers to be able to consider potential adoptive families of the same ethnic background as their infants, our program is in great need of African-American families interested in adoption.  African-American and biracial couples who live in middle Tennessee are invited to contact Caring Choices to learn about the wonderful opportunities that adoption offers for creating or building a family.
