Tennessee Office for Refugees

Cuban/Haitian Entrants

A Cuban/Haitian entrant is a Cuban or Hatian national that has been admitted or paroled into the United States on or after April 21, 1980 but has not received a permanent status, has a pending application for asylum, or has a pending deportation. Cuban/Haitian entrants are eligible for the same services as refugees and can apply to adjust their status to Legal Permanent Resident after one year and U.S. citizenship after five years in the U.S. However, this eligibility is dependent on whether or now the individual receives an order of deporation with a final, non-appealable, legally enforceable order of removal.

Quick Facts:
In 2013, 69 Cuban and Haitian nationals were admitted into the U.S. and resettled in the state of Tennessee.
