Tennessee Office for Refugees

Refugee Social Services (RSS)

Refugee Social Services (RSS) programs are federally funded and available to refugees for up to five years after their arrival in the United States. Priority for services is given to new arrivals within their first year. RSS is provided through refugee resettlement agency affiliates and focuses on intensive employment services, including workforce orientation, job search skills, job development, on-the-job training, employment placement, and follow-up. The goal of these services is to promote the self-sufficiency of the client.

Social adjustment services – case management services that extend beyond employment - are also available through RSS. These services include referrals and assistance in accessing medical care, educational opportunities, basic needs and emergency services, translation and interpretation, and immigration services related to adjustment of status.

RSS also provides English language training for refugees who do not speak English fluently. Training is conducted through a variety of means - including classes and volunteer tutors - according to individual refugee needs and community resources.

The services of our Basic Needs Programs work to meet the needs of people we serve in a supportive way.
