Tennessee Office for Refugees

Refugee Medical Assistance (RMA)

Refugee Medical Assistance is federally-funded short term medical insurance provided to refugees who are ineligible for TennCare and Medicaid. Refugees are eligible for this coverage for up to eight months after their arrival in the United States. In Tennessee, RMA is provided through International Medical Group.

RMA also includes a short-term mental health counseling program through CorpCare. This service is available as a resource to both clients and agencies who may have questions about the mental health of their clients or need advice on how to proceed with a mental health referral. CorpCare counselors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and provide interpretive services covering 150 different languages, including the native languages of the refugees we serve.

For the period of October 2013 through September 2014, approximately 71% of our clients secured employment with health benefits available. We encourage our partners to intentionally seek jobs with health benefits so that our clients have the peace of mind that comes from having medical coverage for themselves and their family. We are proud that the majority of our clients have been able to achieve this.

The services of our Basic Needs Programs work to meet the needs of people we serve in a supportive way.
