Sewing Training Academy

The Sewing Training Academy is a program of Catholic Charities in collaboration with the Nashville Fashion Alliance and Omega Apparel.

The purpose of the Academy is to train people to sew in order to connect them with jobs in local manufacturing. The course is open to anyone looking to gain skills in order to sew for manufacturing.

The Sewing Training Academy currently offers two levels:

Students, many of them beginners, learn how to sew on industrial sewing machines and sergers. Students sew six projects during the course of the class. Each project builds on the last, helping students grow their accuracy, speed and knowledge of construction as the course progresses. The class also includes training in basic alterations and experience sewing for small batch production.
-6 weeks
-Monday-Thursday, 9am-12pm
-An afternoon class is also offered a few times per year, please inquire
-Course fee is $150, which includes a kit with sewing supplies and fabric for the projects done in class

The Intermediate course is offered three times a year, usually on Saturdays. Students must take the basic course in order to be accepted into the intermediate course. Students build on their knowledge from the basic course and are encouraged to become stronger sewers by problem solving.
-5 weeks
-Saturdays, 9-2pm (with short lunch break)
-Course fee is $300, which includes supplies for projects done in class
