Saint Mary Villa Child Development Plans to Build New Playground October 27: Kaboom!, Nashville Predators Foundation provide major support for build

Posted 10/05/2016

Saint Mary Villa Child Development Center staff, families, and many supporters from throughout the community are gearing up for a new playground build on Thursday, October 27, at the program's new St. Vincent de Paul location (1704 Heiman Street).

The build is being sponsored by KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to giving all kids - particularly those growing up in poverty in America - the childhood they deserve filled with balanced and active play, and the Nashville Predators Foundation, an arm of the Nashville Predators with a mission of meeting the educational, social, health, and cultural needs of the community by offering unique resources to youth-oriented organizations.

"This is such a wonderful gift to our program and, of course, to our children from KaBOOM!, the Nashville Predators, and their many supporters!" said Clarie Givens, the program's executive director. "The opportunities this new playground will provide through physical, mental, and social stimulation in so important for them as they develop for the next stages in their lives."

"We especially appreciate the design development steps KaBOOM! took to include our children in the process," she added. "They had so much fun coming up with ideas with Gnash, the Nashville Predators mascot."

More than 200 volunteers from the Nashville Predators, the Nashville Predators Foundation, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee, Delek US, MAPCO, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Jackson National Life Insurance Co., LP Building Products, NEW Power, Piedmont Natural Gas, Catholic Charities of Tennessee, and the Saint Mary Villa Child Development Center family will join forces for the build on October 27. All skill levels are needed.

Another 20-30 volunteers will gather on Tuesday, October 25, for the Build PREP Day. These volunteers will be involved in unloading and moving the new playground materials, precisely cutting lumber, and digging holes for footings, among other tasks.

Both days will start at approximately 8:00 a.m. and conclude by mid to late afternoon.
