Close to 200 refugees from more than 10 countries celebrated the start of a new year and the start of a new life at a party hosted by Catholic Charities of Tennessee at Loews Vanderbilt Hotel Saturday.
While the party had all the classic staples like food, dancing and live music, one young man shows, the best way to celebrate is to make the most of a priceless second chance.
"We have a lot of wars in Darfur," said Bakary Mohamed, a refugee from the Darfur region of Sudan.
Catholic Charities of Tennessee's Refugee Services program hosted approximately 200 refugees from more than 10 countries who arrived in the Middle Tennessee area during 2011 on Saturday, Jan.7, at Loews Vanderbilt Plaza.
Artworks by 13 clients of the Catholic Charities Refugee Services Elders and Youth programs were included in the “Telling Your Heritage: A Community Partner Art Show” on display at Nashville’s Frist Center for the Visual Arts. The show closed October 24, 2011.
